How FD Works
Shows maturity value and interest earned. The calculator uses the visible inputs, applies the formula below, and rounds rupee outputs to whole numbers so the result is easy to read on mobile.
Formula
FD result = validated inputs → formula calculation → rounded Indian result
Inputs used:
- Principal
- Interest rate
- Tenure
- CompoundingExample Calculation
India-Specific Assumptions
- Loan and investment results use standard public formulas used by Indian banks and mutual-fund calculators.
- Rates are editable reference assumptions, not offers from a bank or AMC.
- All rupee results are rounded to whole rupees for readability.
- Inputs are treated as estimates; actual bank, employer, university, insurer, or tax-office calculations may differ.
- The calculator uses Indian formats, slab concepts, and common FY 2025-26 assumptions where relevant.
Common questions
Does FD compounding frequency matter?
Yes. Monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, and yearly compounding can produce different maturity values for the same rate and tenure.
Is TDS included in the FD maturity amount?
No. This calculator estimates pre-tax maturity. Banks may deduct TDS based on interest income and your submitted forms.
Can senior-citizen rates be entered?
Yes. Enter the higher rate manually if your bank offers a senior-citizen FD rate.
Does premature withdrawal penalty apply?
No. Penalties vary by bank and deposit type, so reduce the rate manually if you want a rough premature-withdrawal estimate.
Should I compare FD with PPF?
Yes if the goal is long-term and tax treatment matters. FD is more flexible; PPF has a longer lock-in and different tax treatment.
